Training and Education for Short Breaks Services in York and North Yorkshire

Children and young people with disabilities can benefit greatly from short breaks that allow them to take part safely in leisure activities. We provide free training for their family and friends, as well as short break providers, to help them offer these short breaks.

Training and mentoring is provided in York and North Yorkshire, by our qualified nurses and specialist trainers. The service is for those who are looking after people with disabilities aged 25 or under, who have been identified for short-break provision.

We can run the training at home or out in the community, to give you the right skills and knowledge.

To find out more about the service, call us on 01262 408060 or email allied.healthcare@nhs.net.

Our staff and training

All our children's support workers have a Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly Criminal Records Bureau) check, and are fully trained for child-specific services. In addition to our standard induction, they complete a two-day child-specific induction, plus training in paediatric first aid, basic life support and children's safeguarding.

When our workers complete their induction, we require them to register for the QCF Diploma Level 2, unless they already have this qualification. We also actively encourage staff to register for the QCF Diploma Level 3 qualification. Our children's services team works closely with care workers to train on specialist healthcare tasks.
